With a nice cartouche titled. Da Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola.... 59,8 x 47 cm / 23,2 x 18,5 inches. This map of the Persian Empire is filled with detail and stretches from the Black Sea to the Indian Ocean. The Caspian Sea is shown in an odd, round shape that extends more east to west than north to south. The decorative title cartouche features a Persian map and weaponry. It is engraved by Georgio Widman.

Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi was an italian engraver and painter, at the end of the 17th century. Edition: From "Mercurio Geografico overo Guida Geografica in Tutte Le Parti del Mondo". For this atlas, Giacomo de Rossi worked with Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola. The firm published also maps from Nicolas & Guillaume Sanson. Later, the firm was solded to Lorenzo Filippo, knowned as "Calcografia Nazionale", then, the "Regia Calcografica".

It still exits today as "Calcografia Nazionale". It is as a museum which owns one of the most important and nice maps of the world. On strong paper, well engraved. Rome, dated 1679, 17th Century.
