[1] Shimotsuke was bordered by Kozuke, Hitachi, Mutsu and Shimosa Provinces. The provincial capital is located in what is now the city of Tochigi. The Ichinomiya of the province is the Futarasan jinja located in what is now the city of Utsunomiya.
